At 16 weeks pregnant today, I'm nowhere near transitioning into full blown maternity clothes yet. However, trying to find clothes that both fit and flatter at this point is starting to become challenging. Enter the peplum top! We've been using peplums to hide unsightly lumps and bumps for some time now, so why not apply the same principle to a baby bump! When paired with an elastic waist skirt like I did here, it makes for the perfect combination of comfortable and flattering. Although I might not be ready for it yet, I look forward to sharing some of my favorite maternity lines in the near future. The current designs and styles have come a long way from the frumpy frocks of the past, making it more possible for us stylish mommies to stay cute throughout our whole pregnancy! Stay tuned!

Maxi skirts are a great summer staple for every wardrobe. They're cute, casual and comfortable! Let's face it, at this stage in my pregnancy, anything with an elastic waist has been my best friend! You can pretty much expect me to be living in these types of flowy frocks for the rest of the summer! Happy hump day everyone!

What I'm wearing...dress: Asos, heels: Steven by Steve Madden (only available in this color), acrylic clutch: Forever 21 (similar)
This is my look that I wore to our friend's wedding over the weekend! It was a beautiful ceremony overlooking the ocean here in CT. Over the years, I've been to a lot of weddings and I think the concept of proper wedding attire etiquette is often overlooked.
I think one of the most widely known fashion rules that still holds true today is, DON'T wear white to a wedding! The bride should be the only one wearing white on her wedding day, but surprisingly there are a vast number of people who have never heard of this rule! I take this rule a bit further and I exclude beige, nude, off white, or even a light silver. The idea here is that you don't want to upstage the bride! Think darker jewel tones for winter weddings and lighter pastels and florals for spring and summer weddings. When in doubt, you can never go wrong with the little black dress!
Beyond color choice, I also try to stay away from anything too flashy. Save the dress with the all over sequins or rhinestones for the next time you go out with your girlfriends on the town! Also, if you have a rocking body, that's awesome, but try to stay away from anything too revealing. Low cut necklines and high cut hemlines are never a good idea to wear to a wedding!
Don't get me wrong here ladies, I'm not saying you have to choose a dress that's boring or frumpy. I want you to feel good about yourself and I certainly don't want you to just blend in. I think that if you keep the colors, patterns and lines both classic and simple, you can't go wrong!

What I'm wearing...ombre maxi dress: Lauren Conrad (Kohl's), heels: Zara (similar), leopard clutch: Forever 21 (similar), necklace: J Crew (similar), bracelets: Kohl's (similar)
How dreamy is this new ombre maxi dress by Lauren Conrad from Kohl's?! The material is so soft and comfortable and I love how the lining extends all the way to the floor. When dressed up, like I did here, this maxi would be perfect to wear to a summer wedding. Pair it with a flat sandal and a denim jacket instead, and you're ready for a fun backyard barbecue! Summer dresses that pull double duty are always a good investment! I hope everyone is having a great week so far!

What's been hiding under all those flowy tops and baggy sweaters over the past few weeks? The bump! My husband and I are very happy to announce that our family of three will soon become four in November! If you're a loyal reader and you've noticed that my posts have been less consistent lately, this is why. Between the exhaustion and sickness that come along with the first stages of pregnancy, I found it very difficult to get motivated. Now that I'm well into my second trimester, I'm finally starting to feel like myself again! I'm looking forward to sharing this journey with you over the next few months, and to the challenge of styling this ever growing belly! I hope that you all continue to follow along and track my progress, but more importantly, I hope I can serve as some kind of inspiration to all you stylish expecting mommies out there!
P.S. It's such a relief to finally let this little bump out of hiding!!

Get used to seeing this denim jacket because I'll basically be living in it all summer long! In fact, I think I need to invest in another one in a darker wash, just so that I can give this one a break! The denim jacket has been around for decades and goes with absolutely everything. It also serves as the perfect light layer for those chilly spring and summer nights. If you don't currently have one in your wardrobe, I recommend finding one immediately! Whether it's cropped or classic, light washed or dark, the denim jacket is a must have!

I'm loving the nautical chic feel of this look today! This look feels casual, but is dressed up just enough to wear to any of your fun outdoor parties this summer. I can't tell you how excited I am that the weather is finally starting to warm up! It's the season to start shedding layers and showing more skin. It's time to trade in the faux leather and warm knits for cool cottons and crisp linens! I hope everyone is having a great week!
